CreativityWorks was set up in 2002 by Martin Shovel and Martha Leyton.
Martin is a writer, cartoonist, speech writer and workshop leader with a deep interest in the relationship between visual imagery and inspiring and persuasive language. After a degree in philosophy, he went on to become an English language teacher, textbook writer and professional cartoonist. He has published books on language and is an occasional contributor to the Guardian’s Mind Your Language blog and the Macmillan Dictionary blog.
Martha is a speechwriter, speaker coach, editor and workshop leader. After a degree in English Literature she qualified as a teacher and taught English and Communication for some years before moving into educational writing and editing. Helping people communicate and present their ideas to others has always been central to Martha’s work, and speech writing has been a natural development from this. She also coaches clients who want to write their own speeches, and teaches speech writing to aspiring and practising speechwriters. You can hear her talking about women and speechmaking on BBC Radio 3’s Sunday Feature, ‘Let Her Speak’, broadcast on 6th November 2016.
